Maid of Honour
The Maid of Honor is there to be the bride’s right hand - making them a very important part of the wedding. She needs to be there through every step of the process from the planning to the big day. One of her very important roles is to ensue the bride has a stress-free experience.
The Maid of Honor’s responsibilities include:
- Plans and hosts the bridal shower and the bachelorette party.
- At the bridal shower, she records the list of gifts and who brought what for the thank you notes.
- Attends all pre-wedding events (engagement party, rehearsal, rehearsal dinner, etc.)
- Assists the bride with any DIY wedding favours.
- Acts as communication channel between vendors and the bride.
- Carries an emergency kit the day of the wedding.
- Holds the groom’s ring and bride’s bouquet.
- Makes sure the bride’s train lays perfectly during the ceremony.
- Gives a speech and makes a toast at the reception.
- Makes sure the bride finds time to eat.
- Signs the marriage license as a witness.
Bridesmaids
Bridesmaids are usually the bride’s closest friends and/or family members. If the groom has sisters, they are sometimes asked to be bridesmaids. They play important roles throughout the entire process.
The Bridesmaids list of responsibilities include:
- Assists the Maid of Honor in planning and paying for the bridal shower and bachelorette party.
- Be an emotional support system and always available to the bride.
- If possible, attend all pre-wedding events (engagement party, rehearsal, rehearsal dinner, etc.)
- Assists Maid of Honor throughout the wedding day.
- If available, assist the bride with making DIY wedding favours.
- Is attentive to the wedding guests and encourages dancing among the guests.
The Best Man is most commonly a brother or best friend of the groom, his duties are just as important as the Maid of Honor’s so like the Maid of Honor, his main responsibility is to attend to the groom.
The Best Man is responsible for:
- Plans the bachelor party
- Attends all pre-wedding events (engagement party, rehearsal, rehearsal dinner, etc.)
- Assists the groom in choosing wedding attire.
- Oversees the groomsmen throughout the wedding day.
- Is emotionally supportive of the groom and keeps him calm.
- Holds the bride’s ring during the ceremony.
- Arranges transportation for the groom and groomsmen to the ceremony site.
- Gives the first speech and makes a toast at the reception.
- Signs the marriage license as a witness.
- Returns any rental suits/tuxedos the day after the wedding.
Best Man
Groomsmen
Groomsmen are responsible for supporting the groom both in the days prior to the wedding and the wedding day itself. Similarly to the bridesmaids, the groomsmen are typically comprised of brothers and/or good friends.
The Groomsmen’s responsibilities include:
- Assists the Best Man in planning and paying for the bachelor party.
- Keeps the groom calm and de-stressed.
- If possible, attends all pre-wedding events (engagement party, rehearsal, rehearsal dinner, etc.)
- Assists Best Man throughout the wedding day.
- Assists in seating guests at the ceremony.
- Is attentive to the wedding guests and encourages dancing among the guests.
